The fact that anyone conflates the two speaks to their inability to distinguish between a cognizable and virtuous culture (hip hop) and a more modernized form of racial stereotyping – the thug. A black performer on film who sags his jeans, speaks with a distinctly urban drawl, and presents tough (in a hyper masculine way) is no more a thug than a white guy wearing a bandana, driving a motorcycle, and purchasing leather chaps is a Hell’s Angel. Hip hop culture has produced an urban patois, style of dress, and even mode of interaction that those of us who enjoy that culture find appealing in a porn context. Most of the white performers in adult videos today will portray a thug of some sort before they retire, not to mention the ones that are real life thugs. Thugs have criminal records and they pursue criminal activities. There is a distinction to be made between being a thug and being a hip hop urbanite. First, it is important to note that the overwhelming majority of black performers never portray thugs on film. There are a number of commentators on this board who have made objections to what they characterize as “thug porn”, more importantly, they have questioned why the only images of black men that they see in adult films are images of thugs. I think if the studios take the time to not only search out minority stars with the same criteria they use for white performers, and pay them the same rates, I am sure that people will appreciate the diversity. Nicco Sky is so popular at Randyblue that he is close to over exposure (though not in my book). Landon for example comes across as sweet, goofy and definitely hot. Sean Cody may have few minorities, but they are cast and used in the same fashion as other performers.
I think Falcon has done the best job of the main stream studios to use non white performers in a manner that makes the closer to people you meet in the real world -taking into account that black, white, Asian or Latino characters in porn are not real.
Micah Brandt and Eddie Diaz appeal to me not just because they are hot but the scenes I have seen them in they were like people I know, gay without an affected stereotype, not that their characters haven’t been in stereotypical plot lines, most porn is a trope of some sort. I expect diversity in my porn because I live it in my life. I have dated men from everywhere in the world, not out of some sort of fetishism but because I have encountered men whom I found interesting.

Anyone who limits their attraction on the basis of skin color either has had little exposure to other ethnic groups or a bigot.
